2. Rolling Bearings

Rolling bearings, also known as anti-friction bearings, use balls or rollers to reduce friction between the moving parts. These bearings are more efficient than sliding bearings and are widely used in high-speed applications.

Ball Bearings: The most common type of rolling bearing, ball bearings use spherical balls to separate the inner and outer races. They are ideal for high-speed applications, such as in electric motors and precision instruments.

Roller Bearings: Instead of balls, roller bearings use cylindrical, spherical, or tapered rollers. These bearings are better suited for carrying heavy loads and are commonly found in machinery like gearboxes and wind turbines.

Principles of Bearing Rotation

The rotation of a bearing depends on the interaction between its components. In rolling bearings, the balls or rollers roll with minimal sliding motion, which reduces friction. In sliding bearings, the lubricant creates a thin film that separates the surfaces, allowing smooth sliding motion.
